1969年レスター（イギリス）生まれ。現在はベルリンにて制作活動。 1988年レスター・ポリテクニック（現デュ・モントフォート大学）卒業、1991年グラスゴー美術大学卒業。モンクは「完全なオリジナル」を制作することはほぼ不可能であるという考えのもと、一貫して模倣という手法を制作に取り入れてきた。美術の模倣が美術を生むという、美術の生成過程そのものをテーマにする作風で知られる。近年はパリ市立近代美術館（パリ）、Pinakothek der Moderne(ミュンヘン)、をはじめ国内外で多数展覧会を開催。
